Acoustic ceiling Sails installed for Gloucester Council – Shade sail blinds are pleased to announce another successful installation for Gloucester Council.
Gloucester Council is carrying out an extensive upgrade to the national heritage Blackfriers buildings in Gloucester town centre. As part of this upgrade, the council planned to create a multifunctional space that could be used as a café during working hours and as an event function room after hours, or additional space for local event services. However, due to the room’s size and existing design /construction methods, the room was both uninspiring and offered little in the way of acoustic treatment. In essence it was unwelcoming, uninspiring space which acted as an echo chamber. After discussing the issues with our parent company ‘Airsculpt’ www.shadesailblinds.com was asked to work with the councils designers to come up with stylish ceiling sails or ceiling canopies which would act as sound dampeners. The result can be seen below.
Using our stretched inherently fire retardant fabrics – which have acoustic properties – we designed numerous six metres plus sculptural ceiling sails that fitted perfectly between existing beam work and the planned room upgrades / installations. Using our in-house CAD capabilities we worked with the council’s interior designer to design the sculptural sails so they matched the contours of the room, its bay windows whilst following a specific curvature that further increased and improved their acoustic dampening features.
Construction and Installation – By introducing a tensile cable with carbine tensioner system into the perimeter of the sails seams, we were able to gain further control of our sails twists and undulating turns during the installation process. This allowed us to enhance the sails installation direction and overcome issues of obstacles caused by further design adaptations introduced by third party installers.
Result- The result was a truly stunning ceiling installation that acts as both a light diffuser and an acoustic dampening field. The client was immediately impressed and commented on how they instantly enhanced the room’s look and feel. – Anther satisfied customer!
